MY TIDBITS

Cat lovers will enjoy this one, young and old.

Sarah loves animals and especially cats. When she meets Tigger at the animal shelter, she decides to take him home. But her family already consists of several cats, and they will need to figure out how to work Tigger into their family, too.

This is the cross between a picture book and a short chapter book. It's not really for the youngest readers and works better as a read-aloud for slightly older ones. Kids who are feeling more sure with their reading skills will be able to tackle it on their own and enjoy the illustrations along the way.

Cats are the main topic of this tale. Each one has their very own personality, concerns, habits and desires. In other words, they are cats as we know and love them. Tigger needs to feel his way into the family, but this book doesn't stop there. The author shows that it's a challenge and treat for both sides. She lets the cats voice their thoughts, while figuring out how to work together and grow as a family. The message is wholesome and warming.

The illustrations are done with love and depict the cats and their antics nicely. The personalities shine through and each page adds to the written tale.

As to the writing, it's simple but cute. The book could have really used another round of editing, and those reading it will notice the errors dabbled on every page. As a read aloud, these problems won't be noticed.

Jacqueline De La Haye (De Cateret is her mother’s maiden name, and a very well-known name around the world) was born in Jersey, in the Channel Islands in 1961. It was one of the warmest summers they had ever had. She is 58 years old and loves cats. She is married to Kevin, and has a daughter called Sarah. Tigger, Harley, Midnight and Pumpkin are real cats, and theirs. She was a school Teaching Assistant, but due to an accident she had to give it up. She took small classes. She was one of their lunchtime assistants and looked after the computers in the afternoons. Really wherever they needed help, Jacky was there. She really loved it. She misses the children, and working with them. Jacqueline is now retired and enjoys writing and collecting crystals. She also loves to walk, and Jersey is a beautiful place to do that. She also has quite a big house, with a beautiful back garden which is a cat's haven. Her dream is to find a little cottage and carry on writing for children. This is her first book, and she hopes it’s not my last.
