Very few relationships are as special as the one between a child and their best friend; in this case, a dog.

This sweet picture book centers around a girl and her dog, who understand each other without a second thought, and is one of several in a series. Nature is key in this book as the girl and her dog dwell in happiness in the mountains. With light-heartedness, the different aspects of being in the mountains is shown--animals, rivers and simply a celebration of abounding life itself. Several pages are also devoted to the very contrasting 'city' life, where nature isn't as plentiful.

The illustrations are made with much love and depict the accompany text nicely. The text itself is easy to understand and fits the intended age group. It's not as smooth as it could be, but kids won't mind and will be caught up in the wonderful feeling that the girl, her dog and nature bring across.

Summed up, this is a nice read for kids and does a good job bringing over not only the caring relationship between a child and its pet, but also a respect for the wonderful life nature has to offer.
