THE BELGRAVE LEGACY
by Zara Hoffman
YA Paranormal Romance
ZH Press
294 pages

An Ancient Prophecy. A Reluctant Heroine. A Snarky Angel. A Big Mess.
Fawn Belgrave didn’t believe in magic, but she learns her powers are the coveted prize in a bet between God and the Devil, placing her and those she loves in danger. She must navigate a dangerous world of love, lies, and sacrifice—starting when she meets Caleb, the dark angel assigned to romance and seduce her. Can she accept her destiny as the world’s savior before it’s too late?
The Belgrave Legacy is an upper-young adult paranormal romance novel with a feminist twist. Filled with magic, witches, angels, demons, God, and Lucifer, this “coming of age” story will keep you turning the pages until the very end.

MY TIDBITS

Fawn and Caleb are wonderfully interesting characters with so much potential and even the plot begs to be loved. Fawn's predicament is original and demands sympathy. She has no idea who she is or what she's capable of. She's an unexpecting target with a big heart and discovers she does have a lot fight. Caleb, on the other hand, is the perfect bad-boy. Caught in service to Lucifer, he's got a very dark past. He's hot, and he's tough, but with Fawn, he might have met his match.

The premise definitely pulled me in, and I wanted to love this book. Very much so. But the writing just didn't grab me. The characters thoughts and past are laid out, opening the door to who they are and what they're thinking, but it never is close enough to let the reader completely in. The events and happenings are described but not experienced. It's as if the reader is kept at a distance from the story and never drawn in.

Still, the plot was interesting enough that I fought to like it. . .which is saying something. . .but no matter the effort, I just couldn't get into it. I'm sure someone else might really fall into Fawn and Caleb's world, but this someone simply wasn't me.
